PlayStation 2 Price Guide

PlayStation 2 in my opinion is the best console ever released and obviously my favorite. The game library is too huge with too many games you can play especially RPGs.

Even though production and support were halt years ago, the console is still very available in the second hand market. You can always get one for a cheap price.

The standard price of a second hand PlayStation 2 here in Cebu is 1000 - 2000 Pesos only, depending in the package. That already includes 2 controllers, 1 memory card, and a few games. Surprisingly, you can still find this gem in PAG-ASA pawnshops, even though rare where you can get it only for 1500 pesos.

There are bargains out there from sellers so you could get cheaper. Usually they lack some parts like cable, cords, and etc. It's only good if you do have some extra parts where you can use.

Do not buy a PlayStation 2 if the price exceeds 2000 pesos, they are already overpriced unless the bundle is good, like having more accessories or a hard drive / usb for softmodded units.

Speaking of modded units, it would be better to buy the chip-modded since burning DVDs is relatively easy and cheap. The gameplay is also much smoother compared to soft-modded where the movies jump every now and then. So make sure to ask the seller if the unit is chip-modded or soft-modded.

The games are cheap, you can buy pirated discs in malls for 80 pesos each but be warned that they are only using a 4.7 GB DVD so if you are getting a big game like God of War, expect it not to be finished. It would be better to buy blank DVDs for 8 - 10 pesos then burn a game for yourself.

Original games are more expensive, depending on the title. Usually you can find them at 200 to 300 pesos but some would go as high as 500 pesos (Final Fantasy, God of War, Persona). Sports games are very cheap so don't bother, get it for a hundred. 

Memory cards, just order one online. There are 8 GB available in malls for 500 pesos but that is too expensive. You can buy a memory card for as low as 100 pesos from people.

Controllers, just get one from CD-R king for 200-300 pesos. If you want an original one, you can get a second hand for 300-500 pesos, just make sure you can identify if it is legit.

Power cords for PlayStation 2 Fat is easy to find. However, for Slim, it is harder and more expensive. You need around 500 pesos for this one.

AV cords are relatively cheap. A component cable which is the best for PlayStation 2 is just around 300-400 pesos.
